Kevin Falcon was first elected in 2001 as a British Columbia Liberal to represent the riding of Surrey-Cloverdale, and re-elected in 2005. Currently Minister of Transportation, Kevin Falcon is largely regarded as one of the more conservative members of caucus.
Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, Falcon was president of the Access Group, a corporate communications firm he formed in 1998. He has also worked in the real estate development industry and was vice-president of Northwest Investment Properties. Prior to attending university, he spent five years working in the general insurance industry.
As the public face of Gateway, Minister Falcon is notorios for his admiration of authoritarian methods. Observing that China “really has the ultimate Kevin Falcon government structure,” Falcon has mused that “They don't have the labour or environmental restrictions we do. It's not like they have to do community consultations. They just say ‘we're building a bridge’ and they move everyone out of there and get going within two weeks. Could you imagine if we could build like that?”
Who funds Falcon?
"Kevin Falcon is a popular man among property developers, managers and builders. So popular, in fact, that the provincial Liberal transportation minister's financial agent collected at least $61,500 from the industry immediately prior to and during the 2005 election campaign. And he received a further $18,500 from transportation interests, according to an analysis conducted by Public Eye." -Continued
