GatewaySucks.org becomes StopThePave.org

Because Gateway (still) Sucks ... Join the Wave, Against the Pave!

GatewaySucks.org is pleased to announce that we are stepping up the pressure, and switching up our name. With the North and South Fraser Perimeter Road battles now entering crucial phases, GatewaySucks.org will now be called StopThePave.org.

When we first launched GatewaySucks back in 2005, we were just one of many groups alarmed by the BC Government's massive and destructive Gateway freeway expansion scheme. We've grown from throwing huge dance parties to raise awareness, to sponsoring major direct actions to stop the destruction. We did not anticipate that over time GatewaySucks would become the primary contact point for many parts of this movement.

We have also come to realize that this issue extends far beyond our own back yard – to destructive road building projects across Canada and around the world. The network of resistance to freeway expansion is growing, and we need to be part of it. We want our name to be understood by the people fighting against the ‘Supervia’ freeway project in Mexico City, and in Wakefield Quebec by the people opposing the extension of Highway 5. So we're broadening our name, to take a united stand against the paving of our home planet. Our focus will remain on grassroots direct action, but our capacity for solidarity will be enhanced.

This is the last message you will receive from us as GatewaySucks. Future messages will be prefixed with [StopThePave] in the subject line.

Our web address, GatewaySucks.org will remain as a redirect when we complete our move to our new address, at StopThePave.org

Thank you for helping to build the Wave Against the Pave! We'll need your help in the coming days and weeks to spread the word. Stay tuned for updates.
